Radio 4 today
A black chap complaining "Da po'leece get tooo aggwessive when dey stop black yoot."
Well we've seen this many times for ourselves on police shows on TV. Perfectly polite officers being told that they are being 'too aggwessive' and the person being stopped exploding in foul and abusive anger and getting themselves arrested for behaviour unrelated to the original stop - more often than not driving without MOT and insurance (which should still be classed as serious offences but aren't anymore.)
Some may say the police are behaving for the cameras but the young black men certainly aren't.
I believe that what we see on TV is precisely how the police are without the cameras there - it is certainly how it was when I was a policeman 25 years ago. Diversity formed a great part of our training even then. Taking one step out of line was a career finisher in 1987 as much as it is now (Having gone to a 40% black school I didn't even notice 'diversity'... until I wore a police uniform and was treated differently.)
The police in London have tried withdrawal on a number of occaisions - each has resulted in an explosion of knife crime and a clamour from the 'community' for more intensive policing. This involves acting accordingly to 999 calls (in which most of the victim innitiated descriptions for robbery suspects involve black youths in hoodies) or responding to crime statistics in which racial descriptions of suspects are collated from victim reports.
Intelligence led policing rather than on gut feeling in other words.
All of this is now under the eye of local 'community' leaders.
"Da po'leece get tooo aggwessive ..."
Well either you're stupid or you're lying, matey.
Why is this issue so bloody tricky and will it ever be resolved ? When are the 'community' leaders going to step forward and back the police up ???

Never! Most commoonitee leaders need to have 'racial problems' so they can maintain their position, whether they are the local Somali elders in Charlton or David Lammy/Fatty Abbott in Parliament and all the other steps in between. Their very being depends on it.
I've worked in central london but mostly in South and S E London and the majority of street criminals, robbers, were 'back in the day' and still today, young black men.
Car thieves and burglars were mostly rat faced chavs and 25 years ago we still had proper white east end / sarf lunnun armed robbers.
The premier fraudsters were Nigerians - probably still are.
Of course with our wide open borders we have managed to import a much more vibrant criminal community. Eastern Europeans give us 'dippers', people & sex traffickers, and drug importers and aggressive squatters and beggars.
New 'black' variants who also seem to to turn to street robbery come from Somalia, de Congo in fact all over the World.
Card skimmers from Sri lanka. and then we have cyber crime again mostly from abroad...east euro / africa?
Crime levels have rocketed and what do our political class do? Neuter the police. Sure there were loads of concerns about the Old bill but these haven't got any better, they've got worse.
No discretion, poor training and a lower standard of recruit for racial/gender profiles. Hampshire Police won a 'Stonewall Award' yesterday for being the best gay friendly police force in the UK. Marvellous but they come way down the scale in other performance figures, in fact they're pretty shite.
So, Stop & Search, criminals don't like it but most of these are young black men so we'll curb it. Interesting to see how it will affect (a) the murder rate in our urban ghettoes and (b) crime generally.
I really would like to get out of the UK but it seems as if the rest of world is going the same way, I may as well get used to Friday Prayers!
@ Ranter.
I agree with some of your concerns, my well meaning friend:
"....Sure there were loads of concerns about the Old bill but these haven't got any better, they've got worse. No discretion, poor training and a lower standard of recruit..."
Unfortunately, a lack of accountability and the stealth metamorphosis of State Police, consolidated the position of PC Lout. Military intervention will end this freefall very abruptly. It will occur when the mere sight of police uniforms is sufficient to trigger mass shootings.
It may stop when we get leaders in government with spine and policeman who have a devotion to the law and not P.R. The law needs to be seen to work for all regardless of colour even if vocal minorities don't like the fact that they are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime.....not much chance of any of the aforementioned though is there?
Ranter...I'm strongly in favour of black on black crime. During my many years working club doors in Manchester and liverpool black on black violence made many of my problems disapear....great stuff!
Please come to our community meeting... Jim Davidson can't make it.
I can't imagine how policies and guidance around Section 1 PACE powers to stop and search can been fucked about with any more than they have been already but I'm sure the Met will give it another go just to appease. Frankly with 8 weeks left to go I couldn't give a toss. Black yoot don't like stop & search - no shit Guardian survey reveals Black yoot rioted 'cos dey don't like da police - no shit. Even Lord Ian Blair agreed that these are the people who will always hate police because they are shite that is always getting nicked.
The community leaders in the US only back the police up if there is some kind of financial motive to do so, such as a political leader who slips them money wanting to get both their support and the police union support at the same time. Then suddenly its all lovey-dovey. Then again, I think the US has a serious corruption problem that goes beyond anything we've experienced before. I don't know. Most community leaders are just rabble rousers who exploit the gut reaction of inner city poor to a police uniform and encourage division anywhere possible. Just my opinion.
